“And the winner is …” The M&F Bank 100 Years & Grand Celebration story
M&F Bank was founded in Durham, NC in 1907 by nine prominent African-American businessmen, led by R. B. Fitzgerald, W. G. Pearson and James E. Shepherd. The other incorporators included: J.A. Dodson, J.D. Hawkins, John Merrick, Aaron M. Moore, W. G. Stephens and Stanford L. Warren.
M&F first opened its doors for business in 1908. The oldest continuously-operating, African American owned public bank in the United States, M&F Bank has been a profitable institution every year it has been in existence.
M&F Bank is a full-service commercial bank offering a wide range of consumer and commercial depository and loan products, as well as online banking, bill payment and cash management. M&F Bank is among a select few banks in North Carolina designated as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI); this designation is based on the Bank’s community-oriented lending focus, its commitment to financial literacy and the community service activities of its associates. Through its Financial Literacy program, the Bank reaches out to thousands of people of all ages every year, providing age- and lifestyle appropriate presentations that fit the specific informational needs of schools, universities, church congregations and community-based organizations.
The Bank is celebrating its 100th anniversary throughout 2007-2008, beginning this past February with its first Founders Celebration as you have read about in BNz’ finance section. Other centennial-related events include the recently launched “100 Years, 100 Grand” contest, in which GRAND FINALIST, have a chance to WIN $1000, $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 or even $100,000! M&F has also launched an upcoming expansion of the Bank’s Financial Literacy student outreach, and a Centennial Gala set for 2008. M&F Bank also will be the host bank for the 80th Annual National Bankers Association Conference in Durham, NC in October.
M&F offers an array of business and consumer loans, checking accounts, certificates of deposit, money market investment and savings accounts, Internet banking and other products and services. M&F operates in (9) nine branches covering Durham, Raleigh, Charlotte and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The “100 Years, 100 Grand” contest is just one more way for M&F to demonstrate their commitment to improving the lives of their customers and enhancing the lives of North Carolinians.
