“And You Don’t Stop” The New Horizons Story

March 27th, 2008

New Horizons is a Durham, NC non-profit based organization, specializing in the uplifting of young beautiful minds. NH is a non-profit program that’s in partnership with Durham Public Schools in an effort to redirect kids from the streets to the classrooms. With the help of various community and corporate supporters and sponsors NH, is steadily moving towards a global change in academics consciousness.

New Horizons provides a sanctuary of hope where self-destructive young people can transform themselves into productive members of their community. At New Horizons students will be armed with the needed skills to succeed. This alternative program provides a structured day of academics, vocational training, and behavioral modification.

New Horizons works with middle and high school students who have been expelled, or currently undergoing long term suspension, or has dropped out. Their program has not only helped to improve the academic performance of students at risk, reduce dropout and long-term suspension rates but, they have also helped to improve the students social interactions skills in turn giving them a greater understanding of purpose.

New Horizons is assembled in a small school setting composed of supervised discipline, love, and high academic standards making failure anything but an option. Many of NH students come with various issues, such as behavior problems, educational issues, and hard home conditions from one extreme to the next. The NH staff is a handpicked group of qualified individuals solely dedicated to turning young people’s lives around while sending them on more positive and more productive paths.

During their quest for higher education standards New Horizons has been acknowledged as one of the contributing factors to the second lowest dropout rate in the Durham Public School’s districts history.
