Ladies & Homies Darien Brockington and E Jones
July 3rd, 2008
Good looking out Brittany B for introducing Brand Newz viewers to the future that is Darien Brockington and producer E Jones!
Darien Brockington is high off excitement as he talks about his single, “Somebody to Love” from his debut album. The Durham native and North Carolina Central University graduate (NCCU), has had the opportunity of working closely with several North Carolina born stars including: Little Brothers, 9th Wonder, Keith Jones, Vitamin D, S1 and Sheldon Williams.
Brockington has recorded with many global industry notables including: Jaheim and Common (“Testify” remix), Pete Rock (Soul Survivor II), and gospel great William Becton. The twenty-six (26) year old Brockington is also known as “B”. He began singing professionally at the age of twenty-one (21) before landing a record deal with ABB Records, an independent Oakland, California record label that focuses on raising the global awareness of artist, producers and music that’s often ignored by the mainstream.
Comparable to the way Little Brother captured fans, Darien caught the ear of fans in a similar way “B” promoted via the Internet with his nine-track EP, The Feeling, which transformed Darien from local performer, to global artist.
D. Brockington has appeared on several magazine covers, television shows, and Internet websites and most recently he took the front cover of the December issue of Vibe Magazine.
Brockington’s album features many up and coming producers particularly E Jones who says he began making beats and teaching himself how to play the piano as a NCCU freshman. The two first met at North Carolina Central University, during a recording session back in 2001. Jones declared, “I started off making just one (1) track, then six (6) tracks, now it’s the bulk of the entire album. Music is what I want to do. Growing up in New Jersey I have always had a love for hip-hop so here I am trying to make my mark in history.”
When asked about the reason for doing his music with a positive spin and possibly jeopardizing millions trying to avoid the hip-hop stigma. “B.” humbly replied, “as a man, I wouldn’t allow myself to go there. I had great parents that taught me what’s right from wrong. Although, I have seen other people take that alternative, I have also seen where it leads to, and that’s not for me. I want to bring R&B to where it should be in a positive. I’m just trying to create music that can be played throughout the ages”
Brockington wants to keep making quality music that is appreciated by young dudes, folks his age and even people older than him. Be on the look out for music’s new soul child in the “07″ Darien Brockington.
