“When Makin Money” The HSAN Story

June 27th, 2008

Good look Halacia and our prayers are with you and your family. “Welcome back Sista”!

Hip Hop’s Godfather and Rush Communications $350 million dollar man, Russell Simmons, shows young folks why he is so so def. Since creating Def Jams Records in 1984, with long time friend and business partner Rick Ruben, Simmons music vision, has been transformed into a rest haven for artist, record executives, music lovers, entrepreneurs, and every day people.

With over two decades of tangible fame, fortune and success in every facet of the hip hop culture Simmons has grown to become the mogul and the guru of hip hop. Simmons is sharing this fame, fortune, and success with students and people across the nation through his Hip Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN).

Simmons founded HSAN in 2001, as a non-profit, non-partisan national coalition designed and implemented to combat the war on poverty and injustice, with the belief that Hip-Hop is an enormously influential agent for social change when proactively utilized. Since 2001, Simmons has pushed the importance of financial fitness in the black community.

In 2003, he revolutionized the financial payments industry by offering basic banking services to individuals without access to a traditional banking relationship via the Rush Prepaid Visa Card. Simmons later realized there was a broader need in the community that needed to be addressed through education.

Russell’s HSAN has proven to be a great resource for information concerning entrepreneurism, educationist, and those looking to gain better financial stability and wealth. This success has happen with the help and assistance of some big-name entertainment acts and industry leaders like: Bobby Valentino, Bone, Bryan Leach, Chaka Zulu, Common, Doug E. Fresh, Eminem, Kevin Liles, Lamar Odom, Ludacris, Master P, MC Lyte, Melysia Ford, Paul Wall, Run DMC, Too $hort, Tyrese, and Young Jeezy, just to name a few.

HSAN gave birth to history as, one of the world’s leading financial institutions, Chrysler Financial, chose to partner with the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, the nation’s largest non-profit hip-hop organization, to help young people build a solid financial future.

The HSAN program agenda includes a focus on financial literacy, basic banking, repairing and understanding credit scores, asset and wealth management, auto financing, home ownership and entrepreneurship in a national effort to help people “Get Your Money Right” and avoid predatory practices and how to make sound financial practices.
