“Let’s go by the book” The Kelvin DeMarcus Allen story

June 23rd, 2008

BNz Reporter and North Carolina Central University (NCCU) graduate, Stephanie Carr wants to help destroy the typical conception that “if you want to hide something from a black person put it in a book”, by sharing the Kelvin DeMarcus Allen story. Thanks Steph, for the good look!

For over 15 years, Kelvin De’Marcus Allen has worked in the field of public relations and marketing as a consultant. Allen has not only mastered the ability to market and elevate his self, but he has mastered the gift of marketing others, Allen’s company Kelvin Allen & Associates has become his vehicle to that very success.

Allen & Associates offers a wide variety of professional services including feature/promotional articles, interviews, media kits, press releases, targeted advertising, special events, television production, instructional videos, speech writing, website designing, public speaking instructions, television and stage acting.

Some of Allen’s clients include: Duke University Medical Center, Budweiser, Tri-Suzuki, The Inner-City Performer Arts Foundation, Texaco, ABC Affiliate WTNH Channel 8, University of North Carolina, St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation, and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Allen’s’ vast working back-ground has helped him in becoming a jack of all trades…when it comes to marketing and public relations matters. Allen’s skills have opened many doors for him, which have allowed him to work with small and large organizations. Allen assists organizations with their internal and external relationships, while helping them to improve marketing and public relations issues simultaneously in both arts and education.

Allen is an entrepreneur, award-winning author, publisher, and documentary filmmaker. However, writing has proven to be a great trade for Allen in many different ways. Allen’s first book, Against The Odds: Looking Back To Move Forward, was released in 2005. Allen’s feature articles and columns have been published in variety of mainstream and non-traditional publications like the triangles News & Observer. Allen writes a “Life Styles” column for the News & Observer.

Some of the most popular columns include: What are they Learning? - April 5, 2005, History Beyond King - February 8, 2005, Beyond Our Comfort Zone - January 11, 2005, My Mother, My Friend - May 4, 2004, Taking A Step Back - March 9, 2004 and A Question Dad Can’t Answer - February 10, 2004.

Allen has been praised by a host of national personalities and media related organizations. However, Allen’s talents don’t just stop at the paper or television; he is also a dynamic speaker as well organizing corporate, entertainment and educational events.

Allen was born and raised in Durham by a single parent home. At an early age in the 60’s, Allen witnessed close family members become victims of substance abuse. Due to social programs like the YMCA, Allen’s road to success was reinforced.

In the 1970’s the YMCA, and the Parks and Recreation counselors played a large role in Allen’s life, often driving him across town to the YMCA center, where he would spend several hours a day playing basketball, football, swimming, table tennis, karate, chess and other activities like trips to the movies, and museums, block parties, and local talent shows.
