“Let’s Eat” The Pan Pan Restaurant Story

August 22nd, 2007

Pan Pan serves the community of Durham with appetizing food and a place to fellowship. Pan Pan was first established as a restaurant in 1974. The business was previously located in New York at 135th Street and Lennox Avenue.

After moving to Durham, NC, Pan Pan was an immediate success. The owners began to realize returns on their investment after the first ninety (90) days of operations. Pan Pan was originally opened with a sixty thousand dollar ($60,000.00) investment. The current amount of investment totals approximately four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000.00).

Pan Pan was first transformed from a small chocolate nut store into a southern community restaurant Mecca after the founding of Durham’s Historic Preservation Society. In 1974 Durham began to preserve architectural heritage as people began to buy old houses in various neighborhoods.

In the years since many of the historic tobacco warehouses, factories and mills have been converted into apartment complexes, shopping centers, condominiums, restaurants and offices.

A growing number of African-American business owners are adding “restaurateur” to their credentials while creating some of the nation’s trendness dining spots for business travelers, tourists, local residents and celebrities. Whether you’re in the mood for down-home soul food, classic Cajun or nouvelle international cuisine, a star-powered dining experience is just minutes away.

Pan Pan has overcome many obsticles, but has remained opened as a restaurant with over thirty (30) years of prosperity and critical acclaim. As one of the best soul food and seafood buffet restuarants in North Carolina.

According to Pan Pan’s owner, Abrey Foster, “The food business is like any other business, like shopping if the store does not have what the customer want, why do you go to it? We try to give the people what they want whether it’s southern food, or New York style deli sandwiches and desserts.”

Pan Pan has enjoyed generations of goodness through appetizing fellowships.
