Detrick Clark - Online Chief Editor

1.jpgThe new generation of news has taken a turn when it comes to image and familiarity. North Carolina’s very own Detrick Clark has cracked the glass ceiling and reshaped the typical stereotype formed by most industry executives relative to young African-American males.

Detrick has certainly developed a name for himself, or many names depending on his need to chameleonnize. Mr. Clark has had an omnipresence through Brand Newz On-line, acting as Chief Editor for the Triangle based business. Detrick has had the opportunity to build with “Brand Newz” host Christopher “Play” Martin, former Hollywood actor and Jamaica Queens hip hop pioneer.

“D “ has elevated himself to heights that most twenty-four (24) year old men and women dream. He juggles several strategic positions with a wide range of businesses and organizations. Detrick serves as Sports Information Director and Marketing Specialist for the Carolina Football Development League, a non-profit organization based in Raleigh, NC, which focus on academic guidance, life skills, experiential learning and other support to at-risk adolescents and young adults.

Mr. Clark began to hone his skills as a writer through poetry and screen writing as a Gryphon at Rocky Mount Senior High School, and during his early years as a communications major at Saint Augustine’s College. He continues to expand his literary reach through editing, research and analytical reporting using an interdisciplinary approach. His current interests include sports, arts and entertainment, history, finance, entrepreneurship and youth advocacy. Detrick continues to reach out in North Carolina and throughout the world through his involvement with BrandNewz.com.

Clark further states “I don’t like to use the term at-risk youth, but rather youth of promise, I love to help people that are lost discover their purpose in life, which starts with gaining a greater sense of self worth. ’ Russian philosopher Abraham Maslow believes ’people tend to excel and shine when their basic needs are satisfied whether that’s nourishment, shelter or by simply getting adequate rest and sleep.”

Most would agree that Detrick’s charisma, sense of industry, diligence and resourcefulness could propel him into presidential status. Clark has demonstrated the ability to administrate several projects simultaneously through his management roles in sports, entertainment, pharmaceuticals and most recently BrandNewz On-line. What’s so astonishing is that Detrick executes these tasks while attending as a full-time student, majoring in Organizational Management through the Gateway Program at Saint Augustine’s College, a private HBCU located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Detrick credits much of his success to the strong support and he receives from his family, especially his mother and brother, Ms. Malinda Clark and Deont’e Jones. He also gives special salutes to his uncle Garland T. Clark, aunties Annie Macklin, Erma Taylor, Precilla Clark and Shirley Clark grandparents, Ernestine and Eddie Cherry and many extended family members, including Mr. Michael Eure.

Detrick stated, “I just thank ‘Brand Newz’ for the affording me an opportunity to do what I love for the people I love, and for taking the time to not only tell me what I can be, but also showing me how to become that journalist, actor, lawyer or whatever I choose. Oftentimes educators tell youth that they can be astronauts, presidents of the United States, and a million other things under the sun, but they never walk these young people through the process of becoming authors, editors, producers, judges or nuerousergeons ‘Brand Newz’ has emerged as that force that guides us into greatness.”

Mr. Clark declared, “I hope to make a difference by setting an example and motivating my siblings and other up and coming youth that aspire to become hip-hop moguls, preachers, lawyers, CEO and maybe even the first African-American CEO of the United States. I feel anything is possible when there is faith in God, hard work, belief in oneself, and constructive networking with progressive organizations and individuals. BrandNewz is an organization comprised of such individuals, and opportunities proliferate for those that step forward with the right approach. I sincerely hope that many motivated minds will join in the national movement. What’s good with you!”
